Slide Guitar Lessons: Rhythm Guitar in Open E Tuning

f you play slide guitar in open e tuning, then there is no doubt that you would like to play rhythm guitar as well.

As a guitarist in a band, you will not just be soloing all the time. To be an effective band member, you will need to learn how to play rhythm guitar. In this slide guitar lesson, I’ll show you an alternative chord to the basic straight across pattern everyone plays in open e tuning.

This is one area I cover in my DVD, Slide Guitar Method 5. In this DVD I will show you how to effectively improvise your chord playing in open e tuning by learning chord formations that are used in the blues. This will contain major, minor, minor 7th, dominant 7th, and 9th chords.

So if you’re playing a standard blues in the key of G, then there is no doubt you will probably play this chord as your G chord.

A more bluesy chord would look like this:

It’s really all about knowing what patterns lie closely together so you can switch smoothly between chords without having to jump all over the fretboard.

Another example would be how to play a C chord in open e tuning. This chord form is highly useful when playing blues in open e tuning.

When you start learning useful shapes, and begin to experiment how to put them together within the context of a blues, you can pretty much play anything in open e tuning.

In my DVD, Slide Guitar Method 5 I will show you how to play many different chord formations over a slow blues.

Have you ever tried playing rhythm guitar in open e tuning?  Let me know what your experience has been right below.
