Below is a transcript of this video.
Hey, this is John with Learning Guitar Now. In this video podcast number four I'm going to show you a little bit about the Mixolydian scale played in open E tuning for the slide guitar.
And what you're going to see on the podcast is an excerpt from a new DVD, Slide Guitar Lesson DVD 3: Analyzing the Mixolydian Scale.
So that's what this podcast is going to be about. I want to thank everybody for listening to the podcast and also, I guess, watching now. I think everybody is enjoying the video podcast, and thanks for all the comments. And if you do have
any other comments or questions feel free to email me at info@learningguitarnow.com and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can. And just a little announcement about the DVD, the DVD is for sale for pre-order right now until July 7th.
So if you order the DVD Slide Guitar Method Three: The Mixolydian Scale you will receive free shipping if you order before July the 7th. And that also applies to all the bundles that contain the Mixolydian scale, so you can save lots of money
if you're interested in slide guitar. So let's go ahead and get on with this podcast.
And that's when you're going to use the Mixolydian scale. You could also use if you're just doing a vamp over a C7 , just a vamp over a C7 , because a C7 has ,
the C7 cord has the flat seventh note in it so that's the note in the Mixolydian scale here. So that's another application you would use it in. And if you
just had a vamp with a C , so if you just had a vamp between C and B flat you could use it there to if you had a , similar to Dreams, I guess.
So you would have a C and a B flat cord going back and over. So that sounds really good when you're playing that scale. And all that is, is just C and B flat
and that scale works really good over that cord progression. So that is the Mixolydian scale. You've just got to memorize that scale and memorize the sound of it.
That's one of the most important things is remembering what that scale sounds like, you know, getting that into your brain. I'm just going up the scale there.
So go ahead and memorize that Mixolydian scale there.
Okay, lesson two. We're going to learn five separate patterns for using the Mixolydian scale to solo with. So let's go ahead and start with pattern number one which is going to sound like this.
Start on the fifth fret on the B string , sixth fret on the B string , eighth fret on the B string, so you've got . It's just a simple little five,
six, eight, five, six, eight, and that's a really cool little position. And you want to know where your root note is. So your root note is the eighth fret on the E string. Also where the flat seventh is,
because we're doing the Mixolydian scale, that's the key note of the Mixolydian scale, so you've got , that's what makes it sound like Mixolydian. So you've got five, six, eight ,
five six eight. So know where your root note is, eighth fret , flat seventh , and just kind of improvise around. I'm just playing five, six, eight .
So you can do some really cool licks with that little pattern. So it's a simple little pattern with a lot of potential to do some really cool licks, so five, six, eight, five, six, eight is that pattern.
Okay and that does it for video podcast number four. This is John with learningguitarnow.com, and like I said, Slide Guitar lesson DVD 3: The Mixolydian Scale is now available for pre-order and you will receive free shipping
