DVDs
This is great dvd!! I'm a guitarist with 30 yrs experience,
and 3 solo cds. I wanted to take my blues/southern rock into the
definitive sound of Trucks/Allman, while still having the flexibility to
be creative. This dvd is just perfect!! It teaches precise techniques,
and hands over some of Open E Tuning's hottest licks without dictating a
genre. Wanna play awesome slide guitar, buy this DVD
!!!
-Bill Santiago
Dear John: I'm 53 years old and have been playing guitar
for over thirty years. I was never much of a lead guitarist and always
wanted to learn slide guitar. The sound captured me the first time I heard
the Allman Bros. Band play Statesboro Blues.
I was never able to
achieve that sound no matter what I did. I've gone through more lessons on
the internet and privately than any one guy I know. I actually thought
about doing reviews of all these different courses for others because I
had been through so many of them.
I can tell you one thing without
qualification. John Wayne Tuggle simply provides the best learning
DVDs and video downloads that you can hope to find anywhere! His
DVD, Slide Guitar Method 1, Open E Tuning is the finest learning
tool I have ever found for the player who wants to learn the slide
technique or for those who already play slide, but want to
improve.
I never understood about left hand muting or power chords
or raking until I saw this DVD. You will learn licks that you have always
heard but never knew how to reproduce. You will also learn how to devise
your own style from the basics that John teaches.
Most other
instructors try to impress you with their own ability in an attempt to get
you to purchase their products. They try to make you believe that you will
play like they do just by your purchase. Their renditions of songs like
Statesboro are just that; their renditions. Many times they are sloppy and
inaccurate, but noisy enough to fool the untrained ear. John's
interpretations are right on the money, note for note.
His DVDs
give you a picture in picture view of both hands, leaving nothing to
chance. He is slow, methodical, patient, accurate and clear. I am always
left wondering what the answers would be to the questions I'm left with
after watching other videos. When I watch John's, I don't even have
questions. He is that thorough, clear and articulate. He is also the only
instructor that I have ever known to respond to his own e-mail and do so
promptly.
His teaching method in the Open
E Tuning video is so simple that even a player picking up for
the first time can learn and excel at slide in the first day or
so.
I recommend and endorse this and all of John's products. If my
kids wanted to learn, I would point them toward John. After thirty years I
can finally sound like Duane Allman, minus the virtuosity. Thanks, John
and please, don't ever stop rockin'!

John's DVD gave me the jumpstart I needed to feel confident
improvising and exploring slide guitar, by giving me a solid grounding and
clear understanding of the technique behind it. Can't wait for the next
one.
- Jeffrey Salguero
John, I have been practicing for about 8 days on the Slide
Method 1 (lesson 1). I have noticed a big difference in my sound and I
have gained much insight on how to play a clean sounding slide guitar.
Thanks for developing your courses. The have me helped
tremendously.
- Steve
I bought the Slide
guitar 3 DVD set. For a little more than 2 or 3 weeks I have
working daily with DVD
1 and am improving. I decided to take a peak at DVD
2 because I have my practice routine down. All I can say is
WOW.
I am not going to jump ahead but continue improve with
DVD 1 for another 2 weeks, but I can't wait to get started on DVD 2.
Thanks for developing these courses, you have a great teaching
style.
- Steve Rush
Hi John,
I find all your lessons very informative and easy to work with. I have
been playing professionally for many years and originally just purchased
your slide
DVD's to take my slide playing to the next level.
I was so impressed with your teaching and playing ability that I
decided to buy other lessons you have. Your lessons show Great Blues
techniques that will only enhance anyone's playing no matter what level
their at.
Keep up the Great work.
Thanks Again,
- Paul Otis
Hey John, your videos are very good and easy
to understand.
I've learned more technique from the Slide
Guitar course than the others I've tried.
You are a good
teacher.
- John Nicholson
These dvds have greatly improved my slide
playing. I am glad I was able to find them. If it was as hard
for you to find some lessons and ways to improve, I know that these DVDs
will be greatly appreciated.
All in all, a very good dvd and
one of the nicest guys, takes time to respond to e-mails, and a really
good player in his own right.
- Coty Hand
I have been wanting some instruction on 12 Bar Slide for a
long time. Your presentation and techniques for instruction are second to
none scarab
This is Brian Diller in Nashville. I bought a downloaded version of
your Open
E Tuning DVD . It is fantastic! I am making great strides.
Your teaching methods are perfect. The pace is excellent and I
feel like for the first time in years I am REALLY playing slide.
- Brian Diller
John, I have been playing since 10 years
old and I am now 51. I play in local bands in Southern California and love
the quest for tone. I have studied local pro blues players, cd rom
lessons, CD lessons, I have slowed songs down to get the riffs down of
certain songs etc....
Then I purchased your Blues
and Slide videos after seeing you on You Tube. I have been
following the lesson plans you wrote. After a month and completing
the first half of blues guitar 1. I can see and here a great improvement
in my speed and voicing thanks to your teachings.
I am now out of
my rut and have new tools to use in my soloing.
Thanks
John!
The Journey continues. -Tim O'Connor
I've been playing since I was 18 (45 now), but it
was mostly in the '80s and '90s, and I played mostly hard rock (hair band
stuff) and acoustic. I got pretty good at playing songs and solos,
but I never really "learned" the fretboard. I also never learned the
blues, which in my opinion is where you should start.
As a
result, when I play blues licks and solos I always end up staying in my
comfort zone... in one or two boxes and after all these years of playing I
find my solos to be incredibly boring.
I put it down for a long
time and have recently gotten back into it. I decided I wanted to go
back to basics and learn the right way.
So along with your
lessons, I'm learning the Page, Clapton, Gibbons, Hendrix, etc. stuff
I should've learned in the first place.
As for video
lessons, I've purchased several over the years. I find yours to be
well done with great audio/video quality, understandable format and rich
with explanation and nuance.
I also like that you offer them
via download at a discounted price (last thing I need is more media laying
around)! I do most stuff on computer when I practice, so it works
out well for me. Keep it up, and I look forward to your future
selections.
-Tim
